You’re reading a lot more into this than is actually there. The original notion for this story came from editorial, and was tossed to Rick as an idea that we were interested in. And that’s something that happens a million times every month, we throw a lot of different ideas around in developing storylines.
And in answer to your next rebuttal, Rick wasn’t somehow forced to tell this story–as though we could coerce somebody into doing a particular story. The idea was pitched his way first, and he clicked with it. Had he not, we likely would have pitched it to other people or just kept it in our back pocket for the time when it would work the best. And what Rick’s built from that initial notion is entirely his own story.
