I think you're off base about Hank Pym. People remember it because of their own perceptions and experiences with abuse towards women. Spider Man may have hit MJ but that was explained as some accident and even Hank hit Janet before to save her from some sort of trap during Roy Thomas' run. Nope, people hate it because it appears to be an angry attack in a domestic situation and they can sooner forgive a mass murderer like Magneto than a kindly father figure like Hank who betrayed them once.
