Hey, Tom. Got a question for you! I'm just curious what kind of editorial mandates exist at Marvel concerning how writers interpret characters' power level. Do the writers have freedom to decide about this stuff or is it more top down? I was arguing with a buddy about this for instance, Is the Hulk's strength actually truly limitless or more like it just hasn't found a limit yet. Really though I'm just curious if each writer has the freedom to interpret these sorts of things. Thanks!

This will perhaps shock you, but it’s very, very rare that there’s any great arguments about the power levels of the assorted characters. This doesn’t tend to be the primary driving force behind most of our creators’ stories. So there isn’t a whole lot of discord.

The general sense of what each character can do is pretty well established; we have thirty years of Marvel handbooks that spell it all out. Beyond that, it falls to the discretion of the creators and the editor for the most part.

Also, the madder Hulk gets, the stronger Hulk gets doesn’t necessarily imply limitless strength. Functionally, there must be a threshold to the Hulk’s anger as there is for anybody else’s.
