  • At what point was the decision made to change the SHIELD acronym? I've been familiar with Strategic Homeland Intervention Espionage and Logistics Directorate rather than Enforcement and Division replacing the last couple of words. When exactly was this changed? Was it in the movies?

When it was first created in 1989, SHIELD stood for Supreme Headquarters International Espionage Law-Enforcement Division.

After the events of NICK FURY VS SHIELD, the reconstituted organization’s name stood for Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Logistics Directorate.

When introduced in the first IRON MAN film, SHIELD stood for Strategic Homeland Intervention Enforcement and Logistics Division. And that’s also the version that exists within the Marvel Universe following the events of SECRET WARRIORS.
