Two separate questions, so here we go:
Everybody in the world seems to be talking about Event Fatigue, and have been for about as long as I can remember–I was hearing that phrase as far back as CIVIL WAR. Here’s the thing, though: every Event series sells extremely well. Now, tat could mean that there are hordes of people who don’t like those projects that buy them nonetheless. But I don’t think that analysis holds up under reasonable scrutiny. No, the fact of the matter is that the Marvel readership as a whole likes Event stories. Not every one, necessarily, and only if they’re done well (on which opinions may differ from fan to fan.) The only way to continue to be successful and to be able to keep publishing is to do stories that people want, that they buy. So I’m always going to give more weight to what the audience does rather than what it says it wants.
And as a general rule, though not in absolutely every case, yes, tie-ins to big Events help the sales of those titles, at least on those tie-in issues. That’s the reason that most creators and editors do them.
