As a long-term FF fan, I have to say that the current arc has been a breath of fresh air. Johnny feels like the mature adult he ought to be, the secondary cast matters, and it's dealing with things in a way that feels in keeping with the more Pre-Onslaught days of the team in terms of tone and style. It's also a title that seems to enjoy existing within the Marvel U in an organic way beyond event tie-ins. Yet it still doesn't seem to be doing stellar business. To what might you attribute this?
I think it’s a tough series to get the readers of today to invest in, for whatever reason. It’s been eclipsed in importance by X-Men. Avengers, Guardians and a lot of other things. Plus, I don’t know that the things you like about it–the Pre-Onslaught style that you talk about–is what the Marvel audience as a whole is looking for.
Plus people know that it’s ending at some point, and that tends to make readers check out a little bit.
