This might be a bit inside baseball, but I'm curious - when entertaining a pitch for a book, how much do you consider the name of the creative team in approving it? For example if a really well-known or established creator pitched, would the extra sales that would result in their name being attached to the project be a factor in approval? Thanks!
Yes, of course, certainly.
The equation for success on a series is Characters + Creatros + concept, so the creators do count for a good bit. Mark Millar, say, pitching the same story idea as a newbie writer, has a much greater chance of seeing it happen, both because he’s already got a successful body of work behind him and because he’s going to be a sales draw in and of himself. The chances that he’ll be able to pull off the material and make it work is better odds than on somebody untested.
