  • Tom, is Gambit a popular character? I seem to see a lot of vitriol and/or mocking when his name comes up, and books he's in don't seem to last very long. Yet, at the same time he seems to have a definite following amongst female readers and gay male readers. What's your take?

Gambit was definitely a popular character at one point, and there are a lot of readers who have a nostalgic fondness for him–typically, for his relationship with Rogue. The trouble is that it’s a relationship that’s difficult to go back to just the way it was, and all attempts to set him up in some other status quo haven’t quite taken off.

But really, all it requires is the right creators.
