  • What exactly is your job? AXIS #1 had Medusa colored as if she was Storm, and Cyclops colored in blue and yellow instead of red and black. AXIS #2 listed Susan Storm as Iron Fist on the recap page. These are glaring errors that you'd think an editor would have caught before the comic went to print. If you're not actually editing the comics that the credits page says you are, what exactly do you do?

Well, first off, you’re right, it’s my name in the credit box, so I am responsible for whatever you didn’t like and whatever may have gone wrong. So I’m sorry if a coloring mistake or a label that didn’t get changed properly ruined your enjoyment of AXIS.

I do think that you have a limited understanding of just what is involved in mounting a crossover Event series, especially one that ships three times in a given month. It is a daunting task for even an experienced crew like ours. That’s part of what makes it worth doing.

Also, there is no such thing as a perfect comic book. Never has been, never will be–because comic books are made by human beings. There are spelling mistakes in DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN, for example. This doesn’t mean that you don’t try your best, but it is an acknowledgement that there are going to be foul-ups no matter what. You continually try to keep those foul-ups to a minimum.

But given the sheer number of characters and plotlines involved, the number of artists that need to be coordinated, and the speed with which these issues need to come together (all while other books are being produced at the same time by the same people) please do not insult my team by suggesting that nobody is doing anything. Our editors are the best in art because they routinely manage a workload that would crush you flat.

That it’s difficult isn’t your problem. You’re a reader, you’re paying for a reading experience, so anything that detracts from that reading experience is a problem. And on AXIS #1 and #2, that’s on my. So if you want to send them back to me at the regular Marvel offices, I’ll refund your money right out of my pocket.

(Please note: this offer applies only to Antistar!)

Having more super bonehead mistakes in our comics is a Marvel tradition.
